Berlingen is a small kitesurfing spot on Lake Constance (Bodensee) in southwestern Germany, characterized by a developed residential peninsula jutting into turquoise-green water. The spot faces northeast with protected shallow waters suitable for learning. The lake environment provides consistent water conditions with minimal swell but also severely limited wind resources, as indicated by very low wind reliability of 2.5% and modest average wind speeds of 4.3 knots. The northeastern facing shore creates ideal side-shore conditions during southwesterly winds, which would be the best window for activity. However, the extremely limited wind availability makes this primarily a fair-weather spot dependent on seasonal weather patterns. The proximity to residential areas means shared water space with recreational boat traffic, particularly during summer months. Shallow nearshore waters and numerous obstacles make this better suited to beginners and intermediate kiters who prioritize safety over challenging conditions. Best sessions occur during spring or autumn when passing weather systems bring stronger winds. Winter and summer typically offer insufficient wind for consistent progression.
