Epplesee is a quarry lake located in southern Germany near urban/industrial areas. The lake features turquoise water characteristic of glacial or mineral-rich quarry lakes, surrounded by agricultural fields to the north and west, with developed commercial/industrial zones to the east and south. The spot is best suited for beginner kiters due to flat water conditions and protected environment. However, this location presents significant challenges: wind reliability is extremely poor at 3.0%, with an average of only 5.5 knots—well below typical kitesurfing minimums of 10-12 knots. The inland lake position provides minimal wind fetch development, and surrounding terrain creates turbulent, gusty conditions. The shore faces east with side-shore winds from north or south. Visible sand extraction operations and industrial facilities limit access and create a constantly changing environment. The lake's protected status and shallow areas make it suitable primarily for learning in light wind conditions rather than regular progression, and only when sufficient wind can be found.
