Halfmoon Bay is a shallow coastal lagoon on the Persian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia, characterized by extensive tidal mudflats and protected waters. The bay faces eastward into the Gulf, with industrial development including a desalination plant dominating the shoreline. The water is extremely flat with minimal wave activity (0.27m average), making this purely a wind-sport destination rather than a wave-riding spot. The lagoon environment provides protection from larger Gulf swells but creates highly variable wind patterns with low reliability (10.1%). Best conditions occur with northerly winds (side-shore), though prevailing patterns are weak. The shallow, flat-water conditions suit beginners and those focused on freestyle or light-wind progression. Kiters should exercise caution around industrial structures, boat traffic near the facility, and the extensive shallow mudflats. Water temperature averages 29°C year-round. This is a low-consequence practice area due to minimal wave exposure, but wind unpredictability and infrastructure constraints limit session quality.
