Karatas is a sheltered bay on Turkey's southern Mediterranean coast facing west toward the open sea. The spot features a gently sloping sandy bottom typical of protected bays, with residential and marina development along the eastern shore. The water exhibits characteristic light-swell bay conditions with minimal fetch distance, producing small, manageable waves around 0.5m. Wind reliability is very low at 4.3%, making consistent sessions difficult. When wind is available, northerly winds provide ideal side-shore conditions parallel to the 270° facing coast. The shallow, clear water and protected nature suit beginner kiters, though marginal wind means sessions require patience and proper timing. Primary considerations include monitoring boat traffic from the adjacent marina, avoiding shallow areas marked by color variation, and checking seasonal wind patterns. The spot works best during periods when Mediterranean northerly winds (Etesian/Meltem) reach this southern coast, typically in summer months.
