Koh Chang is located on Thailand's eastern coast facing westward into the Gulf of Thailand. The spot features a sheltered bay environment with predominantly flat water conditions (0.38m average waves). The coastline is characterized by dense tropical forest meeting developed areas with infrastructure, connected by winding roads. This location functions primarily as a bay-style spot rather than an open ocean break. Wind reliability is exceptionally low at 1.3%, presenting a significant challenge for kitesurfing consistency. When wind does occur, northerly directions would provide side-shore conditions. Average wind strength of 4.4 knots is marginal for kitesurfing, requiring lightweight equipment and excellent technique. The flat water conditions make this suitable for beginners when wind is present, as there are minimal wave hazards. However, the combination of very low wind reliability, flat water, and coastal infrastructure makes this a challenging spot to plan sessions around. Best approached during seasonal wind patterns rather than as a reliable regular spot.
