Poyang Lake in Jiangxi Province, China, is China's largest freshwater lake offering a large, protected water body for kitesports. The satellite imagery shows a north-south oriented shoreline with the water body to the east, flanked by distinctive white chalk cliffs and forested terrain along the southern sections. The lake contains numerous islands and shallow areas visible as lighter patches in the water. This is a lake environment with relatively calm conditions and extensive fetch in multiple directions. However, the spot presents significant challenges: average wind speeds of 5.6 knots fall below the typical 10-12 knot minimum for kitesurfing, and wind reliability of only 4.6% indicates unreliable conditions throughout the year. The extensive shallow water areas and numerous islands require careful navigation. Best winds would come from the north (0°) or south (180°) to maintain side-shore positioning along the east-facing main shoreline. This spot is suitable only for beginners during the rare days when adequate wind develops, and sessions should focus on the deeper central water areas away from shallows and islands.
