Tarqua Bay is a shallow coastal lagoon in southern Nigeria, protected by a sandy barrier beach from the Atlantic Ocean. The lagoon is characterized by calm, enclosed waters with significant mangrove vegetation along the northern and western shorelines, creating a protected but constrained riding environment. Water conditions are typically very flat with minimal fetch distance, resulting in waves averaging only 1.12m. The spot experiences extremely low wind reliability at just 0.1%, with average winds of only 5.3 knots—marginal for kitesurfing. Best wind conditions would be from easterly directions (side-shore relative to the south-facing lagoon entrance). The shallow nature of the lagoon and surrounding vegetation make this suitable only for absolute beginners in rare wind conditions. Limited exit and entry zones, combined with vegetation hazards and industrial infrastructure on the eastern shore, restrict maneuverability. The spot is only viable during peak wind events, which are infrequent. Water temperature averaging 28.9°C is warm year-round. This location is marginal for consistent kitesurfing and better suited for learning in controlled, flat-water conditions during unusual wind events.
