Valdecanas is an inland lake reservoir located in central Spain, approximately 60km southeast of Madrid. The spot features a south-facing shoreline with relatively calm, protected waters typical of reservoir environments. This is a small, enclosed body of water with limited wind exposure and minimal wave generation. The extremely low wind reliability (1.7%) and average wind speed of only 5.3 knots make this spot challenging for consistent kitesurfing. Best conditions occur with easterly winds providing side-shore conditions. The lake environment offers a beginner-friendly setting with minimal wave exposure, making it suitable for learning light-wind techniques and body-dragging practice. However, kiters should expect long flat spells and frequent days without adequate wind. The inland setting provides protection from storms but also traps stagnant air masses. Limited fetch means no swell development. Visibility appears limited based on satellite imagery. This spot is best suited for dedicated practice sessions during rare favorable wind windows rather than regular kitesurfing outings.
