Agios Ioannis is a protected lagoon system on the Ionian coast of Greece, separated from the open sea by a sandy barrier beach. The lagoon features shallow, light-green waters with scattered vegetation and small rocky islands. The western-facing coastline creates ideal conditions for northerly winds that blow parallel to shore. Water temperatures average 18.8°C with minimal wave action (0.49m average), making this a flat-water lagoon environment. The spot is sheltered from large ocean swells by the barrier beach, resulting in very protected conditions. This location suits beginners and early intermediate kiters due to shallow depths, light winds, and obstacle-rich terrain requiring careful navigation. The low wind reliability (2.3%) and weak average wind speed (4.6 knots) indicate this lagoon experiences inconsistent wind patterns. Kiters should watch for sudden depth changes, submerged vegetation, and navigate around rocky features. Access appears available from the southern settlement. Best conditions occur during thermal wind development or weather system passages bringing stronger northerly flow.
