Cesantes is a sheltered bay on the northwestern coast of Spain (Galicia region), facing east toward the Atlantic. The spot features a sandy beach with shallow water extending into the bay, protected by rocky headlands and small islands. The area shows mixed residential and agricultural development inland, with established beach infrastructure visible along the shore.
This location functions as a protected beach-break bay rather than an exposed open-water spot. The shallow, gradually sloping bay bottom creates very small average waves (0.86m) with minimal fetch distance, limiting wave development. Wind conditions are poor year-round, averaging just 4.7 knots with only 1.4% reliability—among the worst for any kitesurfing location.
Best conditions occur with northerly winds, which blow side-shore (parallel to the bay's eastern orientation). However, the combination of weak winds, shallow protected waters, and small wave heights makes this unsuitable for serious kitesurfing practice. The spot may only be viable during rare storm systems bringing stronger Atlantic swells and wind. Beginner kiters should seek locations with more consistent wind and wave resources.
