Chalong Bay is a protected bay on Phuket's east coast, facing directly east toward the Andaman Sea. The bay is characterized by shallow, sheltered waters bordered by dense residential and commercial development. The spot features a gradual shoreline with variable depth and scattered boat traffic typical of a populated coastal area. Wind reliability is extremely poor at only 0.6%, making consistent kitesurfing sessions rare. Average wave heights of 0.66m indicate predominantly flat-water conditions. This is a beginner-friendly location when wind is present, suitable for light-wind practice and progression in protected conditions. The shallow bay water reduces consequence of falls and provides safety benefits for learners. However, the low wind reliability, minimal swell, and boat traffic make this primarily a secondary option rather than a destination spot. Best conditions occur with northerly winds, though frequency is minimal. Kiters should expect long flat periods and plan accordingly.
