Ao Sane

Ao Sane is a sheltered bay on the southwestern coast of Phuket, Thailand, facing southwest into the Andaman Sea. The bay is enclosed by forested headlands and features a sandy beach backed by dense vegetation and some development. Numerous moored boats indicate this is a popular anchorage and tourist destination. The bay provides protected conditions with limited wave exposure and relatively small swell. Wind reliability is extremely low at 0.6%, and average wind speed of 5.2 knots is minimal for kitesurfing. The bay's enclosed nature creates a predominantly light-wind environment suitable primarily for very light-wind specialists. This spot works best during the dry season (November-April) when northeast winds provide side-shore conditions from the northeast (approximately 45°). The shallow water, boat traffic, and limited wind make this a beginner-only location when conditions align, though such conditions occur infrequently. Kiters should expect consistent light winds and should prioritize boat awareness and shallow-water techniques.
