Tirua is a river mouth break located on Chile's southern coast where a significant river system meets the Pacific Ocean. The spot features a narrow estuary with teal-colored freshwater mixing with ocean swells, creating complex and turbulent conditions. The coastline faces west toward the open ocean, with forested headlands on the southern bank and developed residential areas to the north across the river. Best conditions occur with northerly winds (around 0°) that are side-shore to the west-facing beach breaks and river mouth. The site experiences consistent Pacific swell, with average wave heights around 2m, making it suitable for intermediate to advanced kiters only. The primary challenge involves managing strong river outflow currents, shallow areas, and the dynamic interaction between river flow and ocean swell. Visibility of hazards can be limited due to murky estuary water. This spot requires local knowledge and should only be attempted by experienced kiters with understanding of river mouth dynamics and strong current navigation.
