Windmill Point is located on the eastern coastline of North Carolina's Outer Banks, facing east into a protected bay system. The spot consists of a narrow beach backed by residential and commercial development, with several rocky outcrops and small islands scattered in the adjacent shallow bay waters. The bay configuration provides some protection from ocean swells, resulting in choppy rather than organized wave conditions. With an average wind speed of only 7.7 knots and very low wind reliability at 9.9%, this location presents challenges for consistent kitesurfing sessions. The best wind direction for side-shore conditions is northerly (around 0°), allowing kiters to work the eastern-facing beach. The shallow, choppy bay waters and presence of scattered rocks make this primarily a beginner-friendly spot when wind is available, though the low wind frequency means sessions will be infrequent. Kiters should be aware of shallow areas, boat traffic, and the confined bay environment that limits fetch distance and wave development.
