Altefähr Rügen

Altefähr is a sheltered bay kitesurfing spot located on the southern coast of Rügen Island in the Baltic Sea. The spot sits within a protected harbor area with a small beach backed by residential development. The bay faces southeast with a sandy bottom providing flat to very gentle water conditions typical of Baltic lagoon-style spots. Wind comes predominantly from the west and northwest, making northeast to east winds the ideal side-shore directions for launching and riding. The spot is highly protected, resulting in minimal wave activity and very stable, predictable conditions. This makes it suitable primarily for beginners and light-wind practitioners rather than wave hunters. Kiters must exercise caution around moored boats, jetties, and the narrow beach corridor. The shallow nature of the bay limits performance for advanced riders but provides safety margins for learning. Low wind reliability (21.6%) means sessions are inconsistent. Best visited during periods of stronger Baltic wind patterns. Space constraints and residential setting require respect for local regulations and other water users.
