Anakao

Anakao is a protected lagoon spot on Madagascar's southwest coast, characterized by a shallow turquoise lagoon separated from open ocean by a natural sand barrier. The coastline runs northeast-southwest with water facing northeast. The lagoon features scattered reef structures and mangrove stands visible in the satellite imagery. Best conditions occur with northwest to north winds (270-360°), which provide ideal side-shore coverage parallel to the beach. The protected lagoon environment offers relatively calm water compared to open ocean, making it suitable for intermediate kiters seeking flat-water conditions. However, low wind reliability at 12.4% means sessions are inconsistent. The shallow nature requires awareness of depth changes and reef hazards. Vegetation along shore limits safe launch and landing zones. Average 1.5m waves indicate this spot is primarily for flat-water freestyle and light wind training rather than wave riding. Water temperatures around 26°C provide comfortable riding conditions year-round.
