Calheta Bay

Residential areas line the upper coastline, with agricultural land and scattered vegetation inland. The south side features rocky terrain and steeper bathymetry. Optimal conditions occur with northeast winds (side-shore), which provide parallel-to-coast airflow ideal for controlling sessions. The bay's protected configuration reduces wave size but also wind strength—average conditions are modest at 1.32m waves and 10.4 knots wind. Wind reliability is relatively low at 29.4%, indicating inconsistent conditions. This spot suits beginners and intermediate riders seeking calm, manageable waters and easier exit/entry. The limited fetch and bay configuration restrict wave development, making this primarily suitable for freestyle and light wave riding rather than serious wave conditions. Best sessions occur during consistent wind periods, typically in the afternoon when thermal effects strengthen the breeze.
