El Zapillo

El Zapillo is a small beach break located on the southwestern coast of Spain near Almería, facing southwest toward the Mediterranean Sea. The spot features a sandy beach with visible breakwater infrastructure protecting the harbor area. While the location offers easy beach access with nearby urban amenities, it is fundamentally unsuitable for kitesurfing. The average wind speed of 5.3 knots falls well below the 12-15 knot minimum required for the sport, and the 1.4% wind reliability indicates consistent calm conditions. Average wave heights of 0.56m provide insufficient water movement for learning or progression. The shallow nearshore waters and constructed harbor elements (piers, breakwaters) create additional constraints. This spot would only be viable during rare strong wind events. Kiters should seek alternative locations with more favorable wind patterns and wave exposure, particularly along the Costa de Almería's exposed southern or eastern-facing beaches where Atlantic swell and Atlantic-generated wind systems provide more reliable conditions.
