Guinjata Bay

Guinjata Bay is a coastal bay formation in southern Mozambique featuring a distinctive curved sandy shoreline with green vegetation inland. The bay opens to the Indian Ocean on its eastern aspect, with visible sandbars and shallow waters creating a lagoon-like character in its interior sections. The spot experiences moderate ocean swell with visible white water breaking at the entrance. Best wind conditions occur with northwesterly winds providing side-shore orientation parallel to the curved coastline. The very low wind reliability (3.2%) makes consistent sessions rare, though when wind arrives, the protected bay interior offers calmer conditions than exposed ocean. Intermediate kiters will find manageable conditions during favorable wind windows, with the bay providing some protection from larger swells. Beginners should avoid the entrance zone where swell concentrates. Local knowledge of sandbar positions and tidal influences is essential, as shallow areas shift seasonally. Water temperature averages 24.6°C, requiring minimal thermal protection.
