Guriu

Guriu is a river delta spot located on Brazil's northeastern coast where freshwater discharge creates an expansive shallow lagoon system. The coast faces east toward the Atlantic, with the Guriu River forming extensive braided channels through fine sediment deposits. The lagoon environment features extremely shallow water (mostly sub-2m), exposed mudflats, and significant tidal influence that reshapes the bottom regularly. This delta setting provides protection from ocean swell but creates choppy, turbid water conditions with limited visibility. Northerly and southerly winds offer side-shore conditions for the eastward-facing coast. The spot suits intermediate kiters comfortable with shallow water and soft-bottom navigation. Key considerations include timing around tidal cycles to maintain adequate water depth, avoiding submerged obstacles, and understanding current patterns created by river discharge. The rough-chop water state and minimal wave development make this a flat-water freestyle or light-wind training destination rather than wave-riding venue.
