Karaburun Plaj

Karaburun Plaj is a developed beach break located on the northern coast of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey, facing north toward the water. The spot features a sandy beach with distinctive groynes extending perpendicular to shore, creating calm pockets but potential navigation hazards. The beach is backed by residential development with roads and housing directly behind the shoreline. Water conditions are typically choppy with small average wave heights (0.83m) and minimal swell generation due to limited fetch. The spot receives predominantly light winds with very low reliability (10.3%), making consistent sessions rare. Best conditions occur with easterly or westerly winds providing side-shore flow along the north-facing coast. This location suits beginners during the occasional windy periods when conditions align, offering protected water between groynes and minimal wave power. Kiters should be cautious of groyne structures, shallow areas near shore, and the developed coastline which may restrict launch/landing areas. Wind consistency is the primary limitation for regular use.
