La Canaleta

La Canaleta is a sheltered lagoon system located in southern Spain near Cádiz. The spot consists of shallow, enclosed waters separated from the open Atlantic by sand barriers and peninsulas. The lagoon orientation is north-south, facing south toward the open water body. This is a protected embayment rather than open ocean exposure, making it suitable primarily for light-wind conditions. The extremely low wind reliability (3.7%) and minimal average waves (0.44m) indicate this is not a destination spot for strong-wind kitesurfing. The shallow depth throughout the lagoon makes it accessible for beginners and those practicing in flat-water conditions. The presence of residential infrastructure and marina facilities suggests active boat traffic requiring careful route planning. Tidal influences are significant given the narrow channel connections to open water. Best wind direction is easterly (side-shore across the lagoon axis). This spot is most suitable for light-wind practice, progression in shallow water, and flat-water freestyle development rather than wave riding or freestyle in strong conditions.
