Laguna Grande

Laguna Grande is a protected lagoon located on Peru's Pacific coast, separated from the open ocean by a narrow sandy barrier. The lagoon faces westward toward the ocean, with the main body of water contained within high desert terrain. The water exhibits characteristics of a shallow, enclosed system with visible reef and rock formations. The spot features extremely low wind reliability at 4.4%, making consistent sessions difficult despite moderate average wind speeds of 7.9 knots. The lagoon's protected nature and shallow depth make it suitable for beginners learning edge control and body dragging, though the challenging wind conditions and presence of underwater obstacles require caution. Best wind direction is from the north (side-shore), though conditions are rarely stable. The abandoned structure visible in the lagoon presents a navigation hazard. Water temperatures average 20°C, requiring a light wetsuit. This location is better suited for progression training during rare consistent wind days rather than regular sessions.
