Lake Sherburne

Lake Sherburne is a high-altitude alpine lake in Montana's Glacier National Park region, offering a sheltered freshwater environment for kitesurfing. The lake is bounded by dense coniferous forest on most shores, with visible sandy beaches and shallow water zones. The westward-facing coastline provides access to side-shore conditions with northerly winds. However, the spot presents significant limitations: low wind consistency at 26.5% reliability and marginal average wind speeds (9.3 knots) make sessions infrequent. The surrounding forest restricts wind funneling and fetch distance. Water conditions appear relatively calm with minimal wave development. This spot suits beginners during favorable wind windows due to light conditions and protected waters, but the poor wind statistics and cold temperature (requiring wetsuits year-round) make it secondary to more consistent nearby venues. Best conditions occur during spring and early summer when mountain wind patterns are most active.
