Lake Volvi

Lake Volvi is a shallow freshwater lake in northern Greece located near Thessaloniki. The northern shore faces the water body, with agricultural land dominating the surrounding landscape. This lake environment offers protected, flat-water conditions suitable for beginners due to minimal wave exposure and enclosed fetch. The visible algal blooms and discoloration indicate water quality issues typical of agricultural lakes with nutrient runoff. Wind conditions are marginal at best, with extremely low reliability (0.1%) and average wind speeds of only 3.6 knots, making consistent kitesurfing challenging. Optimal wind direction would be easterly (90°), providing side-shore conditions. The shallow water near shore and numerous obstacles limit progression opportunities. Vegetation along the banks and shallow areas require careful navigation. This spot is best suited for light-wind training and beginners seeking protected conditions, but practitioners should expect inconsistent wind and potential water quality concerns. Early morning sessions may offer slightly better wind conditions.
