Las Cucharas

Las Cucharas is a bay-facing kitesurfing spot on Lanzarote's northeastern coast, characterized by shallow, protected waters surrounded by extensive resort development. The spot faces northeast into open water, with sandy beaches and shallow areas dominating the northern sections. The bay's enclosed nature provides some wind shadow protection but limits wave development, resulting in consistent small chop rather than organized swells. Prevailing northeasterly winds make northwesterly approaches (315°) the optimal side-shore direction, though consistent wind reliability remains moderate at 52.8%. The spot suits beginners and intermediate kiters due to shallow water, minimal wave height (1.07m average), and relatively protected conditions. However, water remains rough-chop, indicating choppy conditions from multiple wind reflections off the coastline and resort structures. Kiters should account for limited space due to resort proximity, potential boat traffic, and the rocky features visible at the southern point. Best conditions occur during stable wind periods with consistent northeast flow.
