Maharepa

Maharepa is a protected lagoon spot on the windward coast of Moorea, French Polynesia. The site features a large, shallow lagoon separated from open ocean by a continuous reef barrier visible as white wave lines in the imagery. The coastline faces west toward the lagoon, with densely forested volcanic terrain rising immediately inland. This lagoon environment offers relatively protected conditions suitable for beginners and intermediate kiters. The shallow water (typically 2-5 meters) and enclosed nature provide safety margins, though coral heads and seagrass beds require awareness. North wind (0°) provides the most direct side-shore approach for the western-facing lagoon. Wind reliability remains modest at 23.5%, typical for French Polynesian trade wind zones. Average winds of 8 knots are marginal for kitesurfing; stronger conditions arrive during winter swells (June-August). Water temperatures remain warm year-round (~26.5°C). Best suited for kiters comfortable in shallow, reef-aware environments. Low wind days are frequent; plan sessions around trade wind patterns rather than expecting consistent daily conditions.
