About This Spot
Menjangan Kite Beach is located on Indonesia's northern coast facing northwest toward open water. The spot features a gently sloping sandy beach fronting dense tropical forest. Water conditions are characterized by extremely flat, sheltered water with minimal wave development. The shallow lagoon-like environment with visible turquoise water transition suggests protection from larger ocean swells and possibly submerged features. While the setting offers protected conditions suitable for absolute beginners, the spot suffers from critical limitations: wind reliability of only 0.5% makes consistent sessions virtually impossible, and average wind speed of 6.1 knots is below minimum functional kitesurfing conditions. Average waves of 0.24m provide no wave energy for learning or progression. Side-shore winds from the northeast (45°) or southwest (225°) would be ideal when wind occurs. The dense vegetation limits beach access and infrastructure. This location is fundamentally unsuitable for regular kitesurfing practice due to insufficient and unreliable wind, despite flat water being theoretically ideal for beginners. Better alternatives exist in the region.
Hazards & Safety
Extremely low wind reliability (0.5%) - spot is not viable for regular kitesurfing
Minimal wave energy (0.24m average) - insufficient for progression
Shallow flat water conditions
Possible submerged vegetation or reef near shore indicated by color gradation
Dense mangrove/forest vegetation limiting access and exit points
