Ponta do Rife

Ponta do Rife is an exposed open ocean kitesurfing spot on Cape Verde's northwestern coast, facing northwest toward the Atlantic. The coastline orientation and rocky topography create a challenging environment with consistent Atlantic swell and wind exposure. The spot features rugged terrain with visible reef formations and rocky outcrops that create hazardous entry and exit zones. Best wind direction is northeast (45°), which provides side-shore conditions parallel to the coast. Water conditions are characteristically rough with 1.5m average waves and strong currents visible in satellite imagery. Wind reliability stands at 58.4% with average 12.7-knot winds. This spot suits intermediate to advanced kiters comfortable with rocky terrain, strong currents, and exposed ocean conditions. The lack of protected bays or lagoons means limited forgiveness for mistakes. Water temperature averaging 23.7°C is manageable with protection.
