Ponzos

Ponzos is a sandy beach break located on the Galician coast of northwestern Spain, facing northeast toward the Atlantic Ocean. The spot combines a moderate-sized sandy beach with exposed bedrock formations on both flanks, characteristic of the Iberian Atlantic coastline. The beach receives direct Atlantic swell and operates as a traditional beach break with waves generated by ocean swells rather than reef or point features. The site experiences substantial wave energy (average 1.76m) but suffers from very low wind reliability at 9.9%, making consistent kitesurfing conditions rare. Northwest to north winds (270-360°) provide optimal side-shore conditions for the northeast-facing beach. Water temperatures average 15.2°C, requiring thermal protection year-round. The spot suits intermediate riders comfortable with variable conditions and moderate swell. Low wind frequency means sessions should be pursued opportunistically when forecasts indicate wind events. Rocky areas limit safe launch zones to the central beach section.
