Portonovo

Portonovo is a small bay located on the central Adriatic coast of Italy, characterized by shallow, protected waters surrounded by dense Mediterranean vegetation and coastal development. The bay faces northwest, opening toward the Adriatic. The spot features a sand and shale beach with forested hillsides backing the shoreline and a developed peninsula to the east. The protected bay configuration limits wind exposure and swell generation, resulting in very small average waves (0.38m) and minimal wind reliability (1.7%). Side-shore winds from the northeast or southwest would be most useful, with northeast winds (45°) being preferable for the northwestern-facing bay. This location suits beginners and light-wind specialists seeking flat-water conditions in a protected setting. The shallow bay and surrounding residential areas require careful navigation. Low average wind speeds (5.2 knots) mean consistent conditions are rare, making this an unreliable destination for regular kitesurfing. Best visited during rare windy periods or as a light-wind training venue.
