Praia da Rocha

Praia da Rocha is a long, sandy beach break located in the Algarve region of southern Portugal, facing southwest into the Atlantic. The beach is sheltered by residential development and rocky headlands, with a functioning marina on the eastern flank. Wave conditions are typically modest (0.62m average), making it a mellow venue suitable for beginners. The beach has a gradual slope with mixed sand and rocky areas. The extremely low wind reliability (1.8%) and light average wind (5.4 knots) indicate this spot is marginal for kitesurfing most days. When wind is present, southeast winds (135°) provide side-shore conditions. The marina and boat traffic present significant hazards requiring awareness of shipping lanes. Rocky cliffs and outcrops on the western end create navigation constraints. Summer crowds of swimmers and sunbathers are typical. This spot works best during winter swells and thermal wind afternoons, but requires specific conditions to be viable for kitesurfing.
