About This Spot
Puka Beach is a sheltered beach-break spot on Boracay Island facing northwest toward the Philippine Sea. The beach is backed by dense tropical forest with significant infrastructure development visible, including port facilities and agricultural areas. The spot features a relatively narrow sandy beach with shallow, choppy water conditions and visible reef/rocky formations along the northern section.
The northwest-facing orientation makes this primarily suitable for northeast and southwest winds on a side-shore basis. However, the extremely low wind reliability (4.2%) means consistent conditions are rare. The shallow, choppy waters (0.58m average) and visible obstacles make this better suited to beginners practicing in lighter winds rather than progression-focused riders. The protected setting reduces wave development but increases choppiness from various directions.
Kiters should expect variable winds influenced by the forested terrain and be prepared for strong sun exposure. The limited landing area and proximity to infrastructure require careful spot management. Best visited during monsoon seasons when wind reliability improves regionally.
Hazards & Safety
Rocky outcrops and reef formations visible along northern coastline
Shallow water areas near beach - potential for grounding
Dense forest/vegetation limiting recovery landing zones
Low wind reliability (4.2%) - conditions often insufficient
Steep terrain inland may create turbulent wind patterns
Boat traffic visible near port/dock facilities (lower central area)
