Punta Salinas

Punta Salinas is a shallow lagoon system on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, featuring a narrow spit of developed land separating the lagoon from open ocean. The lagoon's protected nature creates calm, shallow water conditions ideal for beginners learning kitesurfing fundamentals. The enclosed lagoon environment severely limits wind fetch, contributing to the very low wind reliability rating of 10.3%. Side-shore conditions occur with easterly winds (approximately 75°), which would be preferable when wind is available. Wave activity is minimal at 0.95m average, making this spot unsuitable for wave riding but acceptable for flat-water freestyle and progression training. Water temperature averages 27.8°C, remaining warm year-round. The shallow depths and absence of significant swell make this location suitable only for beginners or light-wind practitioners. Kiters should be aware that consistent wind conditions are rare at this location, and alternative spots with better wind exposure may be necessary for regular practice.
