San Vicente Merón

San Vicente de la Barquera is located on the Cantabrian coast of northern Spain, featuring a sheltered beach break within an estuary system. The spot is characterized by a northeast-facing shoreline with sandy beaches flanked by residential development and green headlands. The water body combines estuary and open ocean influences, with tidal dynamics creating variable conditions. The spot is best suited for beginners due to small average wave heights (1.18m) and sheltered geography. Ideal wind direction is from the northwest (315°) to achieve side-shore conditions parallel to the beach. However, the location suffers from very low wind reliability at only 5.8%, making it inconsistent for regular kitesurfing sessions. Water temperatures average 15.2°C, requiring adequate thermal protection. The estuary setting creates shallow areas and sandy bottom conditions that benefit beginners but require awareness of tidal movements and changing water depth. This spot works best during spring tides with stronger northwest winds.
