Sands

Sands is a shallow bay kitesurfing spot located on the north coast of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. The spot features a sandy lagoon area protected by rocky headlands to the east, with a broad sandy beach facing northwest into the English Channel. The shallow, protected waters make this primarily a beginner-friendly location, though the bay configuration can create choppy conditions from multiple wind directions. Best winds come from the northeast to southeast, providing reliable side-shore conditions across the main riding area. The spot works best on rising tides when water depth increases across the lagoon floor. Winter months bring more consistent wind and slightly larger swell from Atlantic systems. Kiters should be aware of the shallow depth, which limits recovery options and requires awareness of ground contact. Neap tides can leave minimal water in parts of the lagoon. The proximity to residential areas and golf course means the spot is best accessed during specific tidal windows when water coverage is adequate. Wind reliability at 54.5% is moderate, typical for Channel Islands locations.
