Alligator Point

Alligator Point is a shallow bay break located on Florida's Gulf Coast where a sandy spit extends into the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The point features a northwest-facing shoreline with protected waters on the northeast side. This is a sheltered bay environment with very light, inconsistent wind patterns—averaging only 6.1 knots with minimal reliability at 1.5%. The spot suits beginners due to calm, shallow water conditions and minimal wave exposure, though these same characteristics limit its appeal for more experienced riders. Small waves averaging 0.43m confirm the protected nature of the bay. Visible vegetation and structures on the point indicate residential development. Water clarity shows sediment patterns typical of shallow bay systems. Best conditions occur during rare northeast to east winds that align side-shore across the bay. Kiters should expect very minimal wind days and light conditions suitable only for light-wind equipment and beginners. The shallow water depth and sandy bottom reduce injury risk but limit progression potential.
