Faaite

Faaite is a small atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago featuring a protected lagoon bounded by reef formations and vegetated motu (islets). The lagoon faces northeast-east, with the main open water to the southeast. The spot is characterized by shallow, turquoise lagoon waters interspersed with deeper channels and reef sections visible as contrasting light patches. The atoll's vegetation provides some wind protection but also creates variable wind patterns. With average wind of 12.1 knots and 50.4% reliability, conditions are marginal and highly seasonal. Wave heights average only 1.59m in the lagoon due to fetch limitations. This spot suits intermediate kiters comfortable with light wind, shallow water navigation, and reef awareness. The limited wind reliability and small riding area make it a secondary option rather than a primary destination. Best conditions occur with northeasterly winds during the dry season. Kiters must carefully navigate shallow sections, avoid reef contact, and be aware of sudden wind shadow zones created by the atoll's vegetation.
