Largs

Largs is a coastal settlement on the Firth of Clyde in southwest Scotland, facing south into a sheltered bay. The spot features a gently sloping sandy beach with tidal flats that expose significantly at low water. The bay is bordered by residential areas to the north and open water to the south, creating a semi-enclosed environment. Wind reliability is quite low at 19.6%, with average winds of 8.5 knots supplemented by small average wave heights of 0.44m, indicating protected conditions. Easterly and westerly winds provide the best side-shore angles for kitesurfing. The shallow, choppy water and tidal nature of the bay make this most suitable for beginners and those practicing light-wind techniques. Water temperatures average around 10°C year-round, requiring appropriate thermal protection. Local boat traffic and recreational use should be monitored. Timing around tidal cycles is important, as low water exposes extensive flats that limit usable riding area. This spot works best during neap tides when water levels remain more consistent.
