Malindi Bay is a sheltered bay on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast, facing east toward open water. The bay's semi-enclosed nature provides natural wind protection and calmer conditions compared to exposed ocean breaks. This location is characterized by consistent trade winds and relatively small but manageable wave heights (average 1.36m). The shallow lagoon and sandy bottom make it suitable for beginners and intermediate kiters seeking forgiving conditions. However, wind reliability is modest at 21%, requiring careful session planning around seasonal patterns. The main challenge is navigating the shallow lagoon and potential obstacles including boat traffic, scattered rocks, and reef structures common to East African coastal zones.
