Niendorf

Niendorf is a protected bay location on the German Baltic coast near Lübeck, facing northwest into the Lübeck Bay. The spot features a developed waterfront with marina infrastructure, groynes, and a partially enclosed harbor system. The shallow, flat-water environment and protective breakwaters create extremely gentle conditions suitable only for flat-water or light-wind sessions. Wind reliability is very low at 15.9%, with average winds of 8.7 knots insufficient for most kitesurfing activity. The spot experiences minimal wave development due to its protected bay setting and short fetch distance. Best wind approaches from the northeast (45°), providing side-shore conditions across the bay. This location suits only absolute beginners or those practicing technical flat-water skills, as wave riding is not viable. Kiters should be aware of groynes, shallow areas, and frequent boat traffic in the marina zone. The location is better suited for windsurfing or paddling disciplines than kitesurfing.
