Palmones

Palmones is a delta and lagoon system located at the mouth of the Palmones River where it meets the Mediterranean Sea near Gibraltar. The spot features shallow, protected lagoon waters on the western side and open bay waters to the east. The coastline orientation toward the northeast (45°) creates distinct wind characteristics. Side-shore conditions occur with northwest (315°) or southeast (135°) winds, with northwest being preferable as the prevailing wind pattern. The lagoon offers extremely shallow, choppy water suitable for beginners learning in protected conditions, though current water reliability is very low at 5.1%. The delta environment includes extensive mudflats, shallow channels, and marsh vegetation that limit riding area but reduce wind turbulence. Wave exposure is minimal with average 0.57m conditions. This spot suits beginners in very light wind conditions when available.
