Playa Grande de Miño

Playa Grande de Miño is a sheltered beach break located on the Galician coast where a river estuary meets the Atlantic. The spot features a protected lagoon area separated from open ocean by a sand spit, creating two distinct zones. The beach faces northwest with a river mouth to the south, offering some protection from direct ocean swell. This is a beginner-friendly location suitable for progression, with small consistent waves (1.5m average) and manageable water conditions. However, the extremely low wind reliability (3.5%) makes it unreliable for regular kitesurfing. Northeast winds (45°) provide optimal side-shore conditions for the main beach break. The shallow lagoon area offers calmer waters suitable for skill development but requires awareness of tidal flows and river discharge patterns. Water temperatures average 15°C, requiring appropriate thermal protection. Best visited during higher wind periods (autumn/winter) when Atlantic systems generate more consistent conditions. The proximity to residential areas means sessions should respect local timing conventions.
