Playas del Este is a protected lagoon system along Cuba's northern coast facing north toward the Atlantic. The spot features extensive shallow water bordered by dense mangrove forests and residential development. The lagoon configuration provides natural wind funneling, though prevailing trade winds from the northeast would offer side-shore conditions from the east direction. This is primarily a beginner-friendly location with minimal wave action (0.73m average) and calm, protected waters ideal for learning fundamentals. However, the extremely low wind reliability (2.4%) severely limits consistent sessions. The shallow lagoon bottom and abundance of vegetation present navigation challenges. Water temperatures average 25.9°C, providing year-round accessibility. This spot suits beginner kiters prioritizing light winds and flat water for skill development, though wind consistency issues make it unreliable for regular practice.
