Potrerillos is a large reservoir lake in Mendoza Province, Argentina, located in the Andean foothills. The lake features a northeast-facing shoreline with clear visibility of residential development, infrastructure, and terraced land use patterns along the western bank. The water body is enclosed by desert terrain with sparse vegetation, typical of the semi-arid region. While the spot offers accessible launch areas and relatively protected water conditions, it is severely limited by extremely low wind reliability at 0.4% and minimal average wind speeds of 4.5 knots—well below the 10-12 knots required for kitesurfing. Best wind conditions would come from the northwest (315°), parallel to the northeastern shoreline. The spot is suitable only for absolute beginners during rare high-wind events and serves better as a training location for light-wind techniques. Kiters should be aware of shallow zones near shore, rock formations visible in the aerial imagery, and the unpredictable wind patterns created by surrounding terrain and infrastructure. The lake's enclosed nature limits wind development and consistency.
