Sabaudia Bufalara is a shallow lagoon system located on Italy's Tyrrhenian coast, protected from the open ocean by barrier islands and sandy peninsulas. The lagoon offers protected, flat-water conditions ideal for beginners and those learning new tricks. The water is sheltered from ocean swell, with minimal wave development. The lagoon's orientation and surrounding geography make northeast winds (45°) optimal for side-shore kitesurfing conditions. However, this spot presents significant limitations: extremely low wind reliability at only 2% means suitable conditions occur rarely. Average wind speeds of 5.5 knots are marginal for kitesurfing, requiring a larger kite and lighter rider weight. The shallow depth throughout prevents launching boats and limits heel-side control. Water quality is affected by agricultural runoff from surrounding fields. The spot suits absolute beginners in rare favorable wind windows, or those specifically seeking flat-water progression. Kiters should expect to visit frequently without conditions being suitable. Summer months may offer slightly better thermal wind development than shown in annual averages.
