Vung Tau

Vung Tau is a coastal beach break located on Vietnam's southeastern coast facing northeast toward the South China Sea. The spot consists of a sandy beach with relatively sheltered conditions due to the bay geography and nearby industrial port infrastructure. Water conditions are characteristically choppy with very modest wave heights averaging 0.53m, making this primarily a flatwater or light-wind kitesurfing destination. The area benefits from consistent side-shore wind when northwesterly or westerly winds prevail, providing safer launching and landing conditions. With low average wind reliability (8.9%) and variable seasonal wind patterns, conditions here are unpredictable. The spot suits beginner to early-intermediate kiters due to small wave size, shallow water near shore, and relatively controlled conditions. Kiters should be aware of boat traffic from the nearby commercial port, industrial facilities visible in the satellite imagery, and the typically choppy water state. Best sessions occur during Vietnam's windy season (October-April) when northeast monsoon patterns provide more consistent wind delivery.
