El Tuque

El Tuque is a protected bay located on Puerto Rico's northern coast, characterized by shallow turquoise waters sheltered by surrounding headlands. The spot features a large lagoon area with sandy bottom in places, backed by mangrove forests and limestone formations. The bay opens primarily westward, with a secondary opening to the northeast. The low wind reliability (0.2%) and small average wave height (0.82m) indicate this is a sheltered location better suited for light wind conditions. Best conditions occur with northerly winds that blow side-shore across the bay entrance. The presence of an industrial facility and associated infrastructure suggests occasional boat traffic. Water temperatures average 26.9°C year-round. This location is most suitable for beginner to early intermediate kiters seeking flat water practice or very light wind conditions. The shallow nature of much of the bay requires awareness of depth changes and potential obstacles. Strong currents should not be expected in this protected setting.
